When gas molecules reach and pass through charged molecules, ionization occurs. Electrons break away from the atoms, traveling to the anodes contained in the sensor. When they come into contact with them, a charge or electrical signal is created. It is this signal that all sorts of gas sensors register, informing users of their presence in a given location. What is the difference between gas detectors that detect one substance and those that can detect many at once? Single-gas sensors, on the other hand, are aimed at detecting a single substance.

Here, however, it is worth making the caveat that a single-gas sensor usually detects many different substances, but only one at a time. When you calibrate it, change its settings, then it is able to detect others, but only one in real time.
